Public Art Fee

San Francisco Beautiful advocated for a change to the Administrative Code resulting in Section 3.19 Public Art Ordinance requiring 2% of the cost of new construction to go toward public art. This has resulted in millions of dollars directly funding new public art throughout the city.

SF Beautiful worked with the City and others to ensure that development that arose from the 2009 Housing Element was balanced. SF Beautiful’s position was that development must take into account San francisco’s unique “urban villages” and neighborhood character.

Solana Foo and a handful of neighborhood artists created a beautiful mural for the Tenderloin People’s Garden on the side of the McAllister Hotel. It is a vibrant mural that exemplifies the community at its zenith. It faces Civic Center Park and City Hall.
