San Francisco Beautiful objected to the proposed height limit increases of the arena’s accompanying hotel towers along the Waterfront, parking over the water, and the lack of adequate transportation congestion planning. Due to public outcry the plans to build on the Embarcadero were relocated to a more suitable location further south on the Waterfront.

In 2003, San Francisco Beautiful recognized the improvements to Mid-Embarcadero/South Beach with a Beautification Award. These areas include the Ferry Building and Ferry Plaza Farmers Market, the South Beach Children’s Play Area and Rincon Park.
