In 2005, San Francisco Beautiful recognized the San Francisco Zoo with a Beautification Award. The San Francisco Zoo has been revitalized by the implementation of its new master plan. Improvements include new and expanded areas for the animals and a level entry on the Great Highway that is accessible to all. The animals may have benefited most from the changes——especially in the new savannah area where giraffes and zebras now live together. The Connie and Bob Lurie Education Center is a prime example of architecture that engages the public while being suited to its location.
For more than 40 years, San Francisco Beautiful has been honoring San Franciscans who make special contributions to the unique character and beauty of our City with the Annual Beautification Awards.
