You have the chance to change this (without getting your hands dirty!) The Board of Supervisors is drafting the City Budget right now, and we need your help to make sure that they understand we believe more attention should be paid to the cleaning and care of public spaces.

Requested staff will provide litter pick up, steam cleaning and graffiti abatement around Bart stations and adjacent neighborhoods in Zones B, D and E. This crew is in response to the increased number of calls to 311 and the DPW Radio Room for cleaning around the BART stations due to human waste, dog waste, and debris from campers. Staff will focus on the Embarcadero, Montgomery, Civic Center, 16th St., 24th St., and Balboa Park stations.
GREEN – $327,500
The Mayor has only funded a partial tree crew, this will provide a full tree crew. As it is, RPD has the staff to service individual trees once every 50-75 years.
This will allow the department to fully staff two tree crews, allowing RPD to both implement a preventative maintenance program for its trees and respond to tree emergencies in a more timely fashion.
SAFE – $1.8 M
The Park Patrol initial request was for 25 FTE – the mayor included 3 FTE in his budget. There was a reassignment of staff from Candlestick who are returning to the general pool, this puts the outstanding need at 18 FTE for Park Patrol, which is roughly $1.8 million.
The additional staff will expand Park Patrol to 50 FTE to provide 24 hour coverage of each of the 6 Park Service Area and Golden Gate Park. Additional Park Patrol will allow the department to help prevent park vandalism, saving on the cost of repairs. Additionally, the visible presence of Park Patrol contributes to and enables the public perception of park safety and reduces illicit behavior in parks at night.
