Lake Merced Task Force

SFB created the Lake Merced Task Force (LMTF) in 1999 in response to the progressive and severe deterioration of the lake and its surrounding area.  The Task Force was launched as a collaboration with other stakeholders, including San Francisco State University and the Friends of Lake Merced.  Under the leadership of San Francisco Beautiful, the LMTF produced a stewardship proposal adopted by the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission and the Recreation and Parks Commission.  The plan calls to raise the lake's water level, guaranteeing the health of the lake and its ability to support wildlife.  We are currently working with local and regional jurisdictions to ensure the timely implementation of the needed improvements.  In 2003, San Francisco Beautiful wrote a grant on behalf of the task force that secured a half million dollars from the California State Coastal Conservancy for lake studies and habitat improvements.
