COLE HARDWARE:
ebrated parks and public spaces to the patchwork of neighborhoods, each with its own special character, there’s no place like it. But the forces of neglect and urban decay have left some of the city’s greatest assets in decline and further marginalized its most challenged neighborhoods.
San Francisco Beautiful is doing something about it. Founded in 1947 by Friedel Klussmann in the course of her successful campaign to save San Francisco’s cable cars, San Francisco Beautiful works to preserve and restore our city’s most valued natural and historic resources while helping San Franciscans maintain the unique character and livability of their neighborhoods. To do this we depend on the support of our members – people like you who care about keeping San Francisco a beautiful and livable city.
By becoming a member of San Francisco Beautiful today with a gift of $50 or more, you will help us carry out vital improvement projects in neighborhoods across the City, as well as to undertake major civic initiatives for the benefit of all who live and work in, or visit San Francisco. Additionally, as a member you will receive our quarterly newsletter, The Cable, to keep you informed about initiatives throughout San Francisco and ways that you can make a difference in your own community. We invite members to submit unsolicited articles and other materials (i.e. cartoons) to be considered for publication. SFB maintains the right to edit submitted material.
Sustaining our Communities Through Funding and Recognition
Each year, San Francisco Beautiful:
Distributes thousands of dollars in community grants to support neighborhood improvement projects. In 2007, we gave out our $1 millionth dollar grant. Recent examples include: Labyrinths installed in Duboce Park and Portero del Sol Park • Irrigation system and plant supplies for the Guerrero Street median plantings • Infrastructure improvements for the Garden for the Environment • School garden supplies at Sherman Elementary School and Mission High School • A mural at Children’s Village Child Development Center
